Pricing Tips
Most items in consignment sales are generally priced between 1/4 and 1/3 of retail prices.
Rule Of Thumb
Equipment, furniture and outside toys can sometimes sell for slightly more than 1/3 of retail prices, depending on the condition and brand of the item.
Want to know the retail price of an item?
- You can search online for what the current retail price is.
- Enter the brand and any serial numbers listed on the item in your search.
- To access a visual search of an item, click on the images icon after searching by description.
Things to Keep in Mind When Pricing:
- Inexpensive, quality items will sell first.
- Quality items priced slightly higher sell mostly after the first two days.
- Remember that many customers are tight on cash. Price reasonably, not ridiculously.
- Consignor's who sell the most items have quality items that are fresh and pressed, cleaned, wiped down, and follow the 1/4 to 1/3 of retail price guideline.
- If your item does not sell and you do not want to pick it up, use the donate option as you create your tags in our system. Remember, it makes sense that if you mark an item for donate, that you would also mark it for discount to increase your chances of selling it first.

If you feel there is a chance your item may not sell, marking it for discount can be a last attempt to get it sold.
- Customers often return on discount days with the mindset of purchasing items solely marked for discount and sometimes buy overpriced items, just because it was marked for discount. Often you'll see a reasonably priced item returned back to the sales floor on discount days when the customer notices that it is not marked for half price.
- If your goal is to clear out your home, marking an item for discount maximizes your chances of selling more items.
- Handwritten discount star symbols are not permitted for security purposes, so be sure to check the discount box when creating each item's tag in the system. If you forget to do it, you will need to re-create and replace the tag so that the discount feature is embedded in the tag's barcode.
